Ariel Norling is a designer and writer
based in New York City (and sometimes Oakland, CA).

I am working towards a BFA in Interior Design at the New York School of Interior Design. I want to work in residential and hospitality design.

You can usually find me deep in the design history archives at the New York Public Library, either researching for a new newsletter issue or digging for cool references for new projects. You definitely won't find me anywhere near neutral materials.

I'm in the process of putting a new portfolio showcasing my interiors work here.

I write a popular newsletter about cool homes for sale on Substack. Substack has featured me as “one of the most interesting independent writers on Substack.” I have been interviewed for The New York Times, Dwell, The Today Show, and NPR.  My newsletter has also appeared in The New Yorker and Morning Brew's Sidekick.
I have also written for Curbed.

Previously, I was a product designer who specialized in helping early-stage startups go from zero to one and then figure out what's next.
After 13 years in tech, I took a sabbatical to rest, travel, and learn new skills. I spent my time learning carpentry and figure skating. Now I can't go back to a life of only pixels.
